Werkstätte Hagenauer:
The Stephen Weinroth Collection
14 July 2023 / 2 pm et

Information View Lots

On July 14th, Rago is pleased to present an impressive offering of Austrian metal and wood art with almost seventy lots in Werkstätte Hagenauer: The Stephen Weinroth Collection.

Franz Hagenauer  Dancer  $25,200

Highlights of Werkstätte Hagenauer

Stephen Weinroth's wide-ranging collection showcases the breadth of Vienna's venerable Werkstätte Hagenauer, which produced striking metal and wood artworks and decorative objects for nearly a century after its founding by Carl Hagenauer in 1898. The Werkstätte Hagenauer auction is especially strong in terms of examples by Carl Hagenauer's sons, Karl and Franz, extending from the 1920s to the 1970s, with modernist, Art Deco, and mid-century styles represented. In addition, there are many inspired forms attributed to the storied workshop itself and some select designs by fellow Austrian artist Sier Kunst.

Among many highlights, here are certain works that are not to be missed: Franz Hagenauer's hand-hammered copper Dancer, nickel-plated brass and enameled steel Piano Player, and patinated bronze and carved wood Hunting Group; Karl Hagenauer's carved wood and brass Leaping Horse and carved wood and nickel-plated brass Greyhound; the Werkstätte Hagenauer's carved wood and nickel-plated brass Female Figure with Dog and carved wood and brass Female Dancer; and Sier Kunst's carved wood and nickel-plated brass Russian Dancer and carved wood and nickel-plated cast bronze Pair of Hounds.
