Seymour Stein, entrepreneur and founder of Sire Records, is best known for working with famed musicians such as Madonna, Talking Heads, and the Ramones. He is also an avid collector of decorative arts, particularly European Art Deco ceramics and glass, alongside 19th and 20th century fine art. 

Join Rago on February 16th for a single-owner session of exceptional works from this important collection. Highlights include works by George Tooker, Bruno Zach, and Jean Dunand, furniture and lighting by Eugène Printz and Edgar Brandt, glass by René Lalique, and ceramics by Jean Mayodon, Gio Ponti, Sèvres and Charles Catteau.

Gio Ponti for Richard Ginori

In the 1920s Gio Ponti revolutionized the production of Richard Ginori with ceramic pieces, as he describes “of vaguely neoclassical inspiration, with Etruscan suggestions, turned toward the modern with ironic elegance.” Finely executed, Ponti’s works for Richard Ginori were widely admired at the 1923 Biennale in Monza so much so that he was named artistic director for the company that same year. At the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris just two years later, Richard Ginori was awarded two grand prizes, one for Ponti and his ceramic designs.
