Born in Prague in 1956, Zdeněk Lhotský is a painter, sculptor, glass artist and technologist, and founding member of the Tvrdohlaví art group. Since 1994, he has served as owner and art director of the Lhotský s.r.o. studio for the production of cast glass sculpture. He lives and works in Pelechov near Železný Brod.

Lhotský’s artistic range is truly broad. Besides cast glass sculptures, he also produces drawings, graphic works, metal sculptures, and large-scale works for architecture. The common denominator of all his artistic projects is geometry. No matter whether he is creating a building facade, interior lighting, fountains, stairs, or glass bowls and vases, all his works are characterized by the use of various geometric patterns and visual decorations.

Lhotský works with decorative elements systematically, always seeking out new and original ways of using them. His experimentation and creative drive led him to invent the unique Vitrucell technology, a new method of casting glass in a mold using knowledge of modern technologies, especially in approaches to the chemical coloring of glass. The honeycomb structure of various dimensions is created by casting pre-prepared parts and glass fragments that have been specially chemically treated. Lhotský has participated in a large number of group and solo exhibitions and his works are held in numerous private and public galleries and museums.
