This work is one of about twelve known examples in this size, the larger version of which was designed by Müller for the Union Porcelain Works booth at the Centennial Exhibition held in Philadelphia in 1876.
Vase features two bison handles, hand-painted floral decoration, hand-carved portraits of George Washington, and six biscuit relief panels depicting American historical scenes, including the Boston Tea Party. Ink-stamped manufacturer's mark to underside ‘Manufactured by Union Porcelain Works Greenpoint NY, NY’ with raised mark ‘UPW’.
