This work originated in the collection of Sir William van Horne (1843-1915), president of the Canadian Pacific Rairoad, was a noted connoisseur of Old Master paintings, Oriental art, and modern decorative arts. Edward Colonna designed the interior of his home, as well as CPR railroad stations. Van Horne’s home and collection remained intact until 1969.
