The Inimitable Betty Parsons

American artist, art dealer, and collector Betty Parsons was one of the most influential figures of the American avant-garde movement. Her eponymous gallery in Manhattan launched the careers of countless artists whose names are now synonymous with modern art and Abstract Expressionism, including Jackson Pollock, Ellsworth Kelly, Mark Rothko, and Barnett Newman. In this 1977 interview, just five years before her death, Parsons speaks of her multifaceted life and career, from her own artwork to the thought process that went into choosing the artists she represented.
