The ‘Alaska Project’ Omega Speedmaster combines elements from the original Alaska Project Speedmaster of 1969/1970 and the Alaska Project II Speedmaster from a short time later. The original watches had been conceived when NASA was planning to visit the dark side of the moon, where temperatures are much cooler. The NASA mission never materialized and so the watches remained as prototypes only to be issued in 2008 in a limited edition of 1,970 pieces.
