ALVARO CIANFANELLI Pair of articulated candlesticks, Italy, ca. 1950; Brass; Stamped MADE ITALY; 3 1/2" x 18 3/4" x 2"; Literature: Italy at Work: Her Renaissance in Design Today, New York, 1950, p. 65. After the conclusion of the landmark exhibition, which toured multiple American museums in the early 1950s, the candlestick model was part of a group of decorative arts gifted by the Italian government to the Brooklyn Museum (54.64.233). Brooklyn’s longtime curator Barry Harwood identified the design when visiting Mark’s gallery in Hudson.
