Carlos Estevez
Art, Experience, and the Greater World

The work of Carlos Estevez takes the viewer on a philosophical journey of human existence through themes of transformation, spirituality and mythology. A journey the artist refers to as ‘alchemical’. His fantastic animals, landscapes and cosmic patterns explore deep questions about our place in the universe in a way that evokes the dreamlike, the metaphorical, and the surreal. Born in Havana in 1969, Estevez is the recipient of the Grand Prize in the First Salon of Contemporary Cuban Art, 1995 and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant, 2015.

Why are we here in this universe? This transcendental answer can perhaps never be answered, or perhaps it has many different answers. One thing is for sure, neither science nor history can reach the human knowledge that art achieves.
