The Honey Blue Challenge

An ADG Modified Rolex

Inspired by the 1970s, Artisans de Genève (ADG) sought to create a watch reminiscent of that era but using an ‘intense’ modern blue color. The canvas, a Rolex Daytona Ref. 116508, has been stripped down completely and some serious modifications have been made to it. The dial has been completely lacquered in blue and the chronograph counters hands have been flamed to match. The bezel, produced in-house, has been changed to a blue and honey gold Bakelite and the case has been drilled and modified by taking out the crown guards, evoking the Daytonas of yesteryear. The sapphire crystal has been replaced by domed Plexiglas and the bracelet has been satin brushed, and no longer has the polished surfaces of a modern Daytona. The solid cashback is no more; in its stead is a see-through case back showing the beautiful caliber 4130, with Côtes de Genève finishing and bevels by hand. This is no ordinary Daytona. A piece of modern art one wears on the wrist, and for the lucky custodians that have owned one, there is no modern parallel.
