From the Family of George E. Ohr
It is common knowledge that 95% of George Ohr’s surviving work of about 10,000 pieces traveled to Montague, New Jersey in 1969. They were transported in the back of a semi-trailer driven through a snow storm by James Carpenter, the barber/antiques dealer who purchased the hoard from Ojo, Ohr’s last surviving child. Less well known are the remaining pieces of the artist’s work, those that never left Mississippi, which mostly ended up in the hands of family members.
The present lot has been consigned directly by Ohr’s descendants, never before offered for sale.
