Micki Ravitz studied art at Washington University and started her career as a teaching artist in the Highland Park school system after graduation. Originally focused primarily on oils and watercolors, she soon turned her artistic practice to making porcelain jewelry. Ravitz founded her studio in 1972, where she continues to create her signature pieces out of clay, minerals, and antique beading. Outside of her her studio, Ravitz shows her pieces at craft fairs across the country.
My inspiration comes from nature. The universe has beauty that no artist can duplicate. Our designs echo the shapes and lyricism of the world around us and are combined with gems, minerals and fossils…One of my cardinal beliefs is that jewelry should make its wearer shine, that it should complement and enhance a woman’s most exquisite natural jewelry: her eye, hair color and skin tones, which are usually the soft and subtle colors of nature.
