On Saturday, May 7th, Rago Arts and Auction Center held its first Fine Art auctions of 2016. Split into 19th/20th C. American and European Art and Post-War and Contemporary Art, these sales saw over 400 lots cross the auction block including paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, and various works on paper by Francis Bacon, William Merritt Chase, Jean-Michel Basquiat, M.C. Escher, Andy Warhol, Alphonse Mucha, Roy Lichtenstein and more. In total, both auctions brought in $1,521,375 in sales. See the top performing lots from the auctions below.

Lot 80, a 1928 oil painting by Mary Elizabeth Price titled The Well Digger from Titusville sold for $50,000, the highest sale price achieved over the course of both auctions.

Lot 73, an oil painting by New Hope Circle artist Fern Isabel Kuns Coppedge titled Spring on the Delaware soared above the high estimate of $30,000, selling for $46,875.

Lot 566, a signed and numbered (105/150) lithograph of Francis Bacon’s Study for Bullfight No.1 sold for $40,625 against an estimate of $30,000-50,000.

Lot 549, Pop-art pioneer Andy Warhol’s Mao signed and numbered (221/250) color screenprint achieved a sale price of $40,000.
