David Rago prepares for the 2016 LA Pottery Show

9 February 2016

David Rago is packing his bags for the LA Pottery Show on February 13th and 14th at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, CA. This will be David’s 35th year in attendance and 15th year serving as guest appraiser for this highly respected gathering of West Coast pottery dealers and collectors.

The LA Pottery Show is an annual exhibition of collectible art pottery that has been held since the 1980’s. Every year, dozens of art pottery dealers and thousands of pottery enthusiasts descend on the Pasadena Convention Center for two days of exhibitions, verbal appraisals, and market insights from the world of art pottery.

As a guest appraiser, David can expect to inspect and appraise upwards of 100 pieces of art pottery over the course of the weekend. Not that he minds! In fact, David relishes the opportunity to explore the works of California potters.

“There is no better place to find period California masterpieces from artists like Rhead, Valentien, or Robertson,” says David, “While most of the great works are in private or museum collections at this point, there are still plenty of fabulous examples of these regional pieces to be found at the show.”

Attending the LA Pottery Show has presented David with the opportunity to inspect, and even purchase, works by Grand Feu, Valentien, University City, and Robineau; makers that seldom, if ever, come out at shows on the East Coast. David expects this year’s show to be no exception and is looking forward to meeting new collectors and appraising rare and unique pieces.

If you are interested in pottery appraisals from a leading specialist in this field and live in, or will be near, the city of Pasadena on Feb. 13th or 14th, David would like to encourage you to visit him at the LA Pottery Show. If you can’t make it, call 609-397-9374 or send an email to to discuss an appointment.
