What the Heckerling?
Rago’s Estate and Appraisal Services Department at the 50th Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning
5 February 2016
On January 11th through the 15th the University of Miami, School of Law hosted the 50th Annual Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning at the Orlando World Center Marriot in Orlando, Florida. Ever the fans of sun, sand, and strategic estate planning, several members of Estate Services Department and Appraisal Services Department were on hand for each day of the week-long conference.
The Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning is the leading continuing education program for estate planners and a national gathering place for members of the estate planning industry. The conference affords attendees numerous professional development opportunities and a review of the latest technology, products, and services that will define their industry in the coming year.
Or, to put it in the words of Rago’s Director of Appraisal Service, Laurel Porcelli, “Heckerling is the ‘Comic-Con’ of estates planning.”
Rago’s Estate Services Department and Appraisal Services Department started the conference on a festive note, with a ‘Kick-Off Party’ held on Sunday, January 10th at High Velocity Sports Club, co-sponsored by U.S. Bank's Private Client Reserve, Empire Valuation Consultants and Sterling Foundation Management, LLC. More than 150 guests joined them for drinks, dinner, and a live screening of the NFL Wildcard Match between the Packers and the Red Skins . The party was hosted by Rago’s Director of Estate Services and regular guest appraiser on PBS’ Antiques Roadshow, Sebastian Clarke.
The conference itself was a resounding success, with over 3000 estate attorneys, wealth managers, and insurance advisors in attendance, as well as dozens of banks, financial planning institutions, and auction houses. Heckerling provides an unparalleled opportunity for these industry professionals to meet in person, network, develop or deepen relationships, and discuss new and exciting developments in the realm of estate planning.
“Not only do we get to catch up with other professionals from around the country,” says Sebastian, “But it gives us an opportunity to ‘check the pulse’ of the market.”
Sebastian Clarke and Laurel Porcelli, along with Estates and Appraisals Administrator Stephanie Wilson and Rago’s Florida Regional Rep Laurie Hilburg, spoke with hundreds of conference goers about the unique value position offered by Rago and handed out over 350 shots of espresso from their posting at booth #212.
While next year’s Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning is a long way off, Rago’s Estate Services and Appraisal Services Departments are already looking forward to their next trip to Orlando.
