California native James Lovera learned from and worked with the Natzlers, F. Carlton Ball, and Marguerite Wildenhain and was heavily influenced by his travels in Japan, leading to his development of a pared down aesthetic focused primarily on exquisitely thrown shapes. He treated the vessel as a canvas, experimenting with glazes and pushing the limits of each firing, the results of which are as varied as they are beautiful.
