CARL MCKENZIE (American, 20th c.)

"Adam and Eve", 1991; Carved wood, paint; 22" x 15" x 6 1/2"; Provenance: Purchased from the artist; Carl McKenzie, one of the Campton, Kentucky carvers, is known for his whimsical and colorful carvings, different from the largely unpainted versions by his fellow artists and teachers Edgar Tolson and Earnest Patton. He received an award from the Kentucky Arts Council in 1985 and his work is much sought after by collectors. (See also Edgar Tolson, lot 46, and Earnest Patton, lot 214)
