JORDAN MACLACHLAN (Canadian, b. 1959)
"Men in Bath with Dog" , Condo Living series, 2014; Clay, glaze, paint; Signed; 6" x 5" x 9"; From the age of four and throughout much of her childhood, Jordan Maclachlan believed that she was an orphaned mountain lion cub rescued by her actual human family. Obsessive and compulsive behavior manifested. With her familyуs tacit consent, she rarely spoke, walked on all fours, and ate from a dish on the floor until her teens. Maclachlan has spent the decades since she came of age working casually in various fields while functioning as a self-taught artist sculpting in clay. Her large body of work gives visual expression to her emotional relationship with animals and reminds us that we use animals for food, sport, work, entertainment and experimentation, as well as companionship. Lots 15 and 16 subtly ask you to think about the intimate relationship between humans and the animals who live with us. Lot 95 reflects her keen, ongoing interest in animal husbandry and zoo-keeping techniques. Maclachlan was shown at 2016 Outsider Art Fair and featured in Raw Vision Issue #94, Summer 2017.
