Appraisal and Valuation

An appraisal is an opinion of value based upon research, usually research on selling prices for like items in the appropriate market. Your property is examined and described and the research is documented. You receive a formal, written report. Back-up files are maintained for no fewer than five years.

For insurance valuation, Rago’s also creates dated opinions of value on letterhead. This approach is acceptable to many insurance companies and less expensive than a full written appraisal.

If one day you choose to sell property you’ve had listed in a Rago appraisal report or valuation letter, whether in one of our auctions or by private sale, some (or all) of the fee could be refunded.

Fees

A good appraisal requires a substantial amount of time and expertise. The appraiser(s) must examine, inventory and describe your property; research makers, signatures and other markings; verify dates; locate comparable items and selling history in the appropriate market; assemble all components into a report; and, if called for, complete IRS documents.

As a result, appraisals can be costly. Rago's appraisal fees are very competitive with industry standards. We charge a flat hourly rate for the appraisers’ time, in addition to any travel expenses or other pre-approved expenses that apply. We create the appraisal in the shortest amount of time necessary to do the job well. We provide a close estimate of the final cost before we begin.
